Arena points and honor

How arena points are calculated and handed out on HoneyWoW, how much honor you earn, and how to plan your PvP gear.

PvP gear in Wrath is bought with two currencies: honor, earned in battlegrounds and world PvP, and arena points, earned by playing rated arena with a team. On HoneyWoW both arrive faster than on the original game, and bots queue for battlegrounds and arenas, so there is always a match.

Honor

  • Honor gains are multiplied by 5 on this realm.
  • You earn it by killing enemy players (and bots) in PvP, by completing battleground objectives and by winning matches.
  • Wintergrasp also gives honor and its own marks. The battle starts on schedule with both sides filled with bots.

Arena teams

You can join one team of each bracket: 2v2, 3v3 and 5v5. To create one, buy a charter from the arena organizer in a capital city, get it signed and turn it in. Each team has a team rating, and each member has a personal rating.

When are arena points given out?

On HoneyWoW points are handed out every day, instead of once a week as in the original game. For a team to give points at the distribution, it must have played at least 3 matches since the previous one, and you must have played at least 30% of those matches. If you are in several teams, you receive the points of the one that gives the most, not the sum.

How many points?

The calculation uses the team's rating. There is one exception: if your personal rating is more than 150 points below the team rating, your personal rating is used instead, so joining a strong team does not hand you free points.

  • With a rating of 1500 or less, the current season gives a fixed base of 344 points.
  • Above 1500, the base grows with the rating along a curve that flattens out at high ratings.
  • The base is the 5v5 value. 3v3 gives 88% of it and 2v2 76%.

Planning your gear

  1. Start with honor gear: it needs no rating, and battleground bots keep the queues short.
  2. Play your 3 daily matches in your best bracket. Since points come every day, a few matches a day add up fast.
  3. Some arena items require a minimum personal rating to be bought. Check the requirements in Items before saving up for one.
  4. Compare how each piece changes your stats in the gear planner.
