Getting started
First steps on HoneyWoW
From zero to your first login: account, 3.3.5a client, realmlist and what to do in your first hour.
HoneyWoW is a Wrath of the Lich King realm (client 3.3.5a, build 12340) where hundreds of playerbots level, quest, trade and fight alongside you. This guide takes you from nothing to standing in your starting zone, and points out the few things that work differently here.
1. Create your account
Register on the website. Your account name is what you type on the game's login screen, not your e-mail. Keep the password somewhere safe: you will also use it to log into the website to vote, use the shop or link accounts with a friend.
2. Get a 3.3.5a client
You need a clean Wrath of the Lich King 3.3.5a client (build 12340). Check the Downloads page: if an official package is available, use it; if not, any unmodified 3.3.5a client works. You can see the build number on the bottom-left corner of the login screen. Any other build (3.3.0, 3.3.3, retail, Classic) will not connect.
Install the game outside of C:\Program Files (for example C:\Games\WoW335). Windows protects that folder and the client may fail to save its settings or the realmlist.
3. Point the client at the realm
Open the file Data\esES\realmlist.wtf (or enUS, enGB, esMX… depending on your client language) with Notepad, delete everything and paste the line shown on Getting started. Save, close, and launch the game with Wow.exe, not with the launcher, which may try to patch the client.
4. Install the addons (optional, but recommended)
The addon pack on Downloads includes MultiBot to command your bots with buttons, Questie to see quests on the map and several helpers made for this realm. Unzip it into Interface\AddOns. The addons guide explains each one.
5. Create your character
HoneyWoW uses individual progression: each character walks through Vanilla, then The Burning Crusade and finally Wrath, unlocking the next era as they clear its content. Because of that:
- At first you can create the eight original races. Draenei and Blood Elves unlock on your account once one of your characters finishes the Vanilla stage.
- Death Knights unlock once one of your characters finishes The Burning Crusade stage.
- Experience stops at level 60 until you complete Vanilla, and at level 70 until you complete TBC. It is not a bug: it is how each era is lived again.
Read Gameplay for the full picture.
6. Your first hour
- Follow the quests of your starting zone. Experience, reputation and honor rates are higher than retail, so levels come quickly.
- Look around: the other adventurers you see are often bots. They talk in the channels, sell on the auction house and accept party invites.
- When something gets hard, invite a bot to your party. The playerbots guide explains how.
- Pick your talents with the talent calculator before spending them in game.
