Recommended addons for 3.3.5a

How to install addons and what each one in the HoneyWoW pack does, plus other useful kinds of addons.

Addons are small interface mods that the 3.3.5a client loads at start-up. They don't change the game rules, but they make it much more comfortable. On HoneyWoW some of them are especially useful because they let you control your bots with buttons instead of chat commands.

How to install an addon

  1. Close the game.
  2. Unzip the addon into Interface\AddOns inside the game folder. Create the folders if they don't exist.
  3. Check the result: each addon must be a folder with a .toc file inside, for example Interface\AddOns\Questie-335\Questie-335.toc. If you end up with an extra folder in between (AddOns\Questie-335-main\Questie-335\…), move the inner one up a level.
  4. Start the game. On the character screen, the AddOns button shows the list. If an addon appears as "out of date", tick Load out of date AddOns.

Addons must be made for 3.3.5a (interface 30300). Addons for retail or Classic won't work and may produce errors.

The HoneyWoW pack

You can download it from Downloads. It contains:

To command bots

  • MultiBot: a button bar to give orders to your bots (follow, stay, attack, formations, strategies…) without typing commands.
  • PlayerBotManager: a window to manage your bots: add them, remove them and see their state.
  • BotGrid: made for this realm. Group and raid frames in the style of Grid, designed for parties full of bots.

To play

  • Questie: shows quest givers, objectives and turn-in points on the map and minimap. Very useful while leveling.
  • Atlas and AtlasLoot: maps of dungeons and raids, and what each boss drops.
  • Grid2: compact group and raid frames, perfect for healers.
  • World Dungeon Maps addons: dungeon entrances and labels on the world map, with the libraries they need.
  • AHPrice: made for this realm. Search an item and see what the auction house bot sells it for and pays for it.
  • DarkmoonFaire: made for this realm. A minimap tracker that tells you where the Darkmoon Faire is right now.
  • EraTalents: made for this realm. Replaces the talent window with the talents of your current era (Vanilla, TBC or Wrath), the same ones the server applies, and shows them when you inspect other players.

Some of the pack's folders contain several addons. Copy every folder that has a .toc inside into Interface\AddOns.

Other useful kinds of addons

If you want to go further, these are categories that many players use in 3.3.5a. Look for versions made for this patch:

  • Damage meters: measure damage and healing done by you and your bots; great for comparing builds.
  • Boss timers: warn you of the important abilities in raid fights.
  • Bag addons: merge all your bags into one window and sort them.
  • Action bar addons: let you move, resize and hide action bars.
  • Unit frame addons: replace the player, target and party frames with more informative ones.

When something goes wrong

  • A Lua error window after installing an addon usually means it is for another version of the game, or it is missing a library.
  • If the interface breaks, disable addons one by one until you find the culprit.
  • To start from scratch, rename WTF to WTF_old; addon settings live there.
  • Too many addons can lower your frame rate. See the low-end PC guide.
